I've been looking for news regarding Live Mesh for quite some time. I previously switched to Live Mesh from LogMeIn Free. My initial thought was, "Finally Microsoft has got something right!".

My first impression was that Microsoft was going to be offering Live Mesh as a platform through which users could store files online, sync folders across computers and even allow full remote access with copy/paste capabilities across all of the computer devices added to the Mesh. They would then improve on this to make it much more stable, before adding the ability to purchase additional web applications and/or services. This sort of approach would have been taken straight out of the Google "How To Dominate" handbook and to tell the Truth, I was finally excited about Microsoft again.

As it turns out Microsoft hasn't learned much in the last few years. Judging by this article they have reverted back to their usual ways. Live Mesh was such a promising service. I know of many people who use it that were waiting for the next major update. Some even believed a true smart phone/iPhone app would be developed as well. As it turns out Microsoft has squandered another great opportunity. Who do these guys have working for them anyways?!?

Live Mesh is now dead to me. I've been looking for an alternative. Perhaps Google might develop something similar to this. Or maybe I'll just have to go back to LogMeIn.

I've been using Live Mesh and found it a valuable tool. I prefer the local/cloud sync model esp where limited connectivity prevents a true cloud approach. Hope they turn the preview into something more solid but agree the lack of activity is not a good sign.
