I don’t use Microsoft Word all that often, so I’ve lost a deep knowledge of its features. I’ve never fully understood the paragraph formatting that inserts an extra line between paragraphs, all too frequently leaving something double-spaced that’s intended to be single-spaced. Eventually I learned how to hit Shift-Enter for a single line space, but I know there’s a better way to handle it buried in paragraph styles or somewhere.

For what it’s worth, this blog explains how to find a new option in Word 2007 to remove the extra spaces before, after, and between paragraphs. Word 2007’s new “ribbon” is better organized than Word 2003’s menus and toolbars, and the option is in a logical place. I hadn’t noticed it, but that’s what learning curves are all about when a program is changed, right?
